www.odogwublog.com reports that Governor Willie Obiano has warned Commercial Motorcyclists in the
State to comply strictly with the recent directive by his administration, restricting their operations from specific routes across the state or risk being banned totally in the state.
Governor Obiano gave the warning at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia when he signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Temple SYC Inspection Limited for the establishment of ultra-modern Vehicle Inspection Centres across 3 major city locations in the state.

The 6 million Us dollar-MoU is for the designing, construction and management of vehicle testing, and Inspection garages at Awka, Nnewi and onitsha.
The sharing formular for the Inspection fees and profit between the state and the investor is 48 percent and 52 percent respectively, covering all the inspection and road worthiness certificates and largely on the condition that the state will provide land at the 3 locations, each measuring approximately 5,000 square metres.
Designed on a build- operate maintain and transfer basis, the garages shall revert to the State Government at the expiry of 15 years commencing from the date the investors started operations, and is subject to the option of renewal for another 10 years only on management terms to be negotiated by the duo.

Performing the function, Governor Obiano said the project offers the prospect of great impetus in his efforts to secure the lives and property of Ndi Anambra through road safety.

The Governor who noted that his administration had commenced its revolutionary strides in the State Transport sector through sensitization programmes aimed at instilling discipline in the motoring public , said the establishment of the vehicle inspection centres will help reduce accidents on the state roads minimally by ensuring that vehicles that ply them are road worthy.                          

   He further revealed that plans are ongoing at resuscitating driving schools and re introducing road signs on the state roads to equip motorists with the neccessary knowledge for safe driving.

Governor Obiano pledged his total commitment towards ensuring that the project is realised on schedule, urging the investor to take off immediately with the signing of the MoU.

Earlier, the Chairman of ANSIPPA and Traditional Ruler of Umuoji, Igwe Cyril Enweze explained that the project seeks to promote road safety and reduce accidents and vehicular emissions with the associated health and environmental implications.

He also said it will create direct and indirect jobs for youths in the state as well as provide some kind of technology and expertise transfer to the state transport sector, as the vehicle inspection officers under the project will undergo training on the functionality of the testing system.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Investing Company, Mr Segun Obayendo hailed Governor Obiano's genuine resolve to make life meaningful for people of the state which he noted is evident in his quick approval for the project and assured that they will deliver in record time.

In a vote of thanks, the State Commissioner for Transport, Mr  Chuma Mbonu described the realization of the MoU as a milestone in the state transport sector, adding that the centres when fully operational will strengthen the operations of the State VIOs and give more meaning to Governor Obiano's vision on safety on the roads.
