The State Government has commenced proactive action to mitigate the negative effects of flood disaster if it
occurs this rainy season.
The State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, has therefore embarked on early warning interactive sensitization meetings with flood-prone ten local government areas in the state.
The four man State SEMA flood sensitization team was led by its Executive Secretary, Chief Paul Odenigbo, with the immediate past Executive Director of the agency, Dr Justin Ijezie, as the resource person.
The team, in the first leg of its tour, visited Anambra East and West, as well as Ayamelum Local government Areas, where they addressed opinion leaders such as traditional rulers, Presidents-general of town unions, in addition to the clergy and teachers, on the need for them to prepare their communities for rapid evacuation, in the event of flood disaster, similar to the 2012 incident.
Chief Odenigbo assured that the Obiano administration is ready for all eventualities and contingencies, should another flood disaster occur in the state.
Other members of the SEMA team, such as Chief Vincent Ezewuzie and Mr Chuks Onyejekwu, noted that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, had warned that there might be a serious flood disaster this year.
They also called on people living in flood prone areas of the state, to cooperate with SEMA in order to save lives, if the disaster occurs.
