HOST communities of the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical
Company (KRPC), Kaduna have been
called upon to discard being lured into hostility by misinformed and mischievous people to cause disaffection between them.
called upon to discard being lured into hostility by misinformed and mischievous people to cause disaffection between them.
The KRPC Managing
Director, Saidu Aliyu Mohammed speaking through the Executive Director
Operations, Adolphus Ezeribe at the
flag-off of the company's Immunization-De-worming exercise for seven host
communities, observed that in most cases, disgruntled people try to drive a
hedge in their cordial relationship.
“Such are the people
for their own selfish reasons spread the unfounded propaganda that KRPC does
not give heed to the environmental impact of its activities especially as they
affect the host communities”; Engineer Mohammed declared while , emphatically
affirming that “the KRPC addresses
strictly to international best practices in its operations and will never do
anything that will harm its neighbours”.
The Managing
Director emphasized that KRPC activities are strictly regulated by the relevant
bodies for such actions hence it was absolved by the court recently over a
legal action instituted by “some misinformed folks”, about the company's
stewardship.
Further buttressing
his claim about improving the host communities, he noted that the sight of
pregnant, breast feeding mothers and babies as well as children from the
surrounding host communities at the on-going immunization and de-worming
programme have made nonsense of their spurious claims of infertility said to
have been caused by the company's operation.
He called on members
of the host communities to disregard them, stating that they are after their
selfish interests and urging them to continue to associate with KRPC in order
to jointly reap the fruits of their neighbourly cooperation, while thanking the
Expanded Immunization Programme (EPI) staff of the Chikun Local Government
officials for partnering in the exercise.
He disclosed that
although KRPC is financially in a precarious state, it still squeezes out funds
for impactful projects for its host communities, hence its present exercise is
targeted at 8,000 babies and pregnant women as well as de-worming of same
number of adult men, women and children. He recalled that 6,000 men were
vaccinated against cerebra-spinal meningitis in 2013.
