Enugu Police discover another baby factory

Enugu State Command  of the Nigeria Police Force has discovered another baby factory
in the state.
  The success was recorded through the intelligent network and patrols of the operatives of the 9th mile division of the force.
  The police public Relations Officer, Ebere Amarizu who made this known said that the baby factory located within Etiti Amankwo, Ngwo of 9th mile axis in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu state is allegedly owned and operated by one Ikechukwu Onoh of Etiti Amakwo, Ngwo.
  According to Amarizu, the said baby factory was being operated in the private house of the the suspect. He disclosed that the place was raided recently  by the operatives who acted on a tip-off about the baby factory where nine pregnant girls and women in various degrees of pregnancy were seen.
  The pregnant women and girls gave their names as Stella James, 19 years from Ohaozara, Ebonyi State, Eze Jennifer, 19years of Obukpa in Nsukka local government of Enugu State, Ugwu Christabel, 17 years of Aku Igboetiti local government of Enugu State, Happiness Mbaonu, 17 years of Nnewi, Anambra State, Ovunna Ifeoma, 20 years of Ezza, Ebonyi State, Esther Nwankwo 21 years of Nkalagu, Ebonyi State, Onyedika Agu, 23 years of Isuawa Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Blessing James, 23 years of Ohafia, Abia state and Chibueze Ujunwa,  24 years of Nenwenta, Aninri local government Area of Enugu State.
  They are helping the operative in their investigations.     
  Meanwhile, the owner of the factory claimed that he got a provisional approval from the Enugu State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in October, 2007 to admit and shelter pregnant women in his hospital called “The Tex Hospital and Maternity Home at 9th mile corner, Enugu.
  He added that the hospital is no longer functional hence his running of the home in his house.
 He also said  that under the authority, he was supposed to inform the Social Development and Women Affairs within 24hrs of admitting any pregnant woman.
  The suspect claimed that he informed the ministry through  phone call and did not write them and gain their consent when admittance were  made. 
  The police spokesperson revealed that on the issue of the authority referring any pregnant lady to his home, the suspect told the police that there was a reference letter which also was not made available as at the time of the report.       
  However, some of the girls narrated their ordeal and
Ugwu Christabel alleged that she was  raped by one Emeka whose whereabout she does not know. She added  that she could not report to her parents until they discovered she was
pregnant and forced her to marry an old man or leave
the family house which made her to seek  for an assistance through one of her aunties that directed her to the home.
  According to her, they don't usually do anything at the home, It is just to eat, give list of their wants and it will be purchased with the agreement that the baby will not be theirs.
  Another person, Happiness Mbaonu of Nnewi revealed that she was  impregnanted by a man she met at Holy Ghost park, Enugu where she usually hawk cashew nuts and someone connected her to the home. The stories of others were not different to what Christabel and Happiness narrated.
  The state criminal and intelligent department is conducting full scale investigations with a view to establishing the legality of the maternity home and how exactly all the inmates got to the home amongst other relevant issues.
