Anambra and Kogi war set to end as Obiano inaugurates committee to demarcate boundary between the two states
Governor Willie Obiano has inaugurated a committee on the demarcation of the boundary between Anambra
and Kogi states.
The ceremony, which took place at Otuocha, headquarters of Anambra East Local government area, had members from both states, project surveyors from the federal government, traditional rulers, as well as observers in attendance.
Correspondent, Amaka Chibuzor-Okoye, reports that the inter-State boundary demarcation Committee has the mandate to find a lasting solution to the communal land dispute arising from the place the Orient Petroleum Refinery at Aguleri-Otu is situated and ensure peaceful co-existence among the neighbouring communities of the two states.
Inaugurating the Committee, Governor Obiano, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, said the state government had spent enormous resources in its efforts to find a lasting solution to the problem.
Governor Obiano noted that when a boundary is established, it will be well known to all parties and stressed the need for roundable discussions by both states on the way forward, to stop unwarranted destruction of lives and property.
The Governor reminded all that God created the people of the two states to co-exist and expressed hope that the inauguration would be the beginning of a peaceful resolution of the dispute.
The Director General, National Boundary Demarcation Commission, Dr M.B Ahmed, commended Governor Obiano for his commitment to ensuring that peace reigned supreme between the two sister states.
He stated that the dispute had attracted presidential attention, adding that the Commission is interested in finding a lasting solution, while noting that the people of Anambra and Kogi states intermarry.
Dr Ahmed assured of transparency, equity and justice, stating that with the calibre of the committee members from both states, security personnel and traditional rulers, he was optimistic that the right thing would be done.
While appreciating Governor Obiano for his concern and also for providing the logistics, the Chairman of Anambra East Local government, Mr Hilary Udano, promised cooperation for the successful execution of the assignment.
