Unizik Mass Communication Department Launches New Dress Code , gets promise of Lecture Hall Annex by Prof Okunna

(ASOMACS), Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, has launched a new dress code.

 The uniform which is an orange T-shirt with black designs was launched at the special interactive forum between the staff and students of the department. 

Head of the department (HOD) of Mass Communication , Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna revealed that the essence of the forum is for the management of the department to intimate students of the developments and progress made by the departments.

She also said the forum will as well give the students an opportunity to discuss their problems or challenges with the lecturers.

She said the event boosts the relationship between the staff and the students of the department and re-affirmed the open door policy run by her administration, hence any student with any issue should not hesitate to bring it forward.

She described the staff of the department as friendly and always willing to attend to students’ issues and reminded the students of the need to dress in their new ASOMACS T shirt on Black Trousers or skirts on Mondays and Wednesdays.

She promised the students of an annex to ease the problems associated with lecture halls.

Speaking earlier, the guest lecturer at the event and chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State, Mr. Sule  Momodu urged students to join in the fight against drug abuse by identifying and reporting drug addicts to law enforcement agents.

Momodu identified the various kinds of drugs abused by students to include cannabis, Monkey Tail, cocaine, Heroine, amongst others.

According to him, drugs do not only affect vital organs of the body but also lead to poor academic performance among students, rape, stealing and aggressive behaviours.

His words:“So many promising students have lost their lives owing to drug abuse. Quit drugs today and work hard with determination and zeal to attain maximum heights in your academics”. 

In his remark, the president of the Student body, Comrade Macdonald Ifeme stated that the need arose for a dress code to identify the students of the department against the different shades of orange shirts worn by the students. He expressed his gratitude to the management of the department for granting approval to the project.

Comrade Ifeme asserted that the uniform will go a long way in making the students stand out wherever they are. He further advised the students to shun drug abuse, examination malpractice as well as fulfilling their financial obligations to the school to avoid embarrassment before or during examinations.

High point of the occasion was the launching of the ASOMACS T-shirt.
