Less than a month to the end of the
current administration, Vice President Namadi
Sambo on Saturday appealed to
Nigerians to give the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and his
team their maximum support.
A statement by his spokesman, Umar
Sani, quoted the Vice President as making the appeal at a stakeholders
conference organized by the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria at the National
Mosque, Abuja.
Describing government as a
continuum, Sambo said Nigerians should cooperate with the incoming
administration in order for it to succeed.
“Government, as you are aware, is a
continuum and with the coming of a new democratic dispensation, it has ushered
in a new government, which will soon be inaugurated.
“I urge you to continue to give them
maximum support and cooperation to enable them succeed,” the statement quoted
Sambo as saying.
The Vice President noted the
contributions of the MSSN in positively shaping the moral upbringing of the
Muslim youth.
He said the organization had
remained one of the veritable tools for grooming youths to becoming responsible
future leaders.
He also observed that the group has
continued to promote national unity and harmony.
Sambo promised that the Federal
Government would continue to support the society and all others with similar
objectives.
He added that the government would
also do its best in encouraging the youth to achieve peace and stability by
forging inter and intra religious harmony.
He stressed the need for the MSSN
and the entire Muslim community to propagate the true message of Islam as
encapsulated in the Holy Qur’an, saying “The Message of Islam is the message of
peace, hope, harmony, goodwill and brotherhood.”
The National President of the MSSN,
Mallam Sirajudeen Folayemi, was also quoted as saying that the conference was
convened to enable past and present leaders of the organisation to brainstorm
on repositioning it to face modern challenges in Islamic propagation.
He used the occasion to congratulate
the Federal Government in the successes recorded in the fight against terrorism
and other social vices, while also appealing to Government to bring to justice
the killers of Professor Ahmad Mustapha Falaki, a former national president of
the organisation.
