that the Metropolitan and Primate of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most
Rev. Nicholas Okoh, has commissioned
several projects at the Health flagship of
Anglican dioceses in Anambra state , Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital Ogidi Idemmili North
Anambra state including the new consultant quarters.
Okoh commended the
management of the hospital led by Bishop on the Niger-Right Reverend Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo
and the Anambra state government for what he described as unparalleled
vision, tenacity and commitment to service delivery and good governance in partnering
to make health accessible to the people.
The Primate added
that a well-equipped and well-managed hospital like Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital would
go a long way in cutting down the costs of medical tourism that was milking
about N250 billion from Nigerians annually.
His word: “what we have seen and commissioned here
today gives course for gratitude to God, we are grateful to all those that have
donated immensely for the progress of this hospital. Especially to the state
government who has made a great contribution to the buildings and other
facilities here and it also gives us hope that greater things are coming.
‘’ It also emphasis the fact
that in our church the vision that we are caring church is been fulfilled. We
are not just preaching and teaching them but also interested in their total
well being. I am satisfied and there is still more to be done and we are well
on the way”.
Bishop Okoh further charged
the workers to steadfast and be devoted to their various works in the hospital.
“Devotion to duty, that is the edge you people need to surpass other hospitals”.
Chief
Willie Obiano, the executive governor of Anambra state, represented by the
commissioner for information, Chief Tony Onyima, on his part, thanked the
management the hospital for what he described proper management and fastest
growing mission hospital not only in the state but in South East if not Nigeria.

“Am impressed with what we have seen here today. It shows that the partnership
within the state government and church is yielding a good result. We hope to
sustain the good relationship and strengthen the partnership from time to time
particularly in the areas of health care.
He
disclosed that recently the state government has intervened in the state owned
hospitals; saying that about 32 of the hospitals have been rehabilitated and
the ones owned by missionaries according to him, government will continue to
support them.
Setting the tone of the day,
the Bishop on
the Niger-Right
Reverend Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo while appreciating the Primate for visiting the
hospital premises for the first time , said one of the visions of the diocese
in establishing the hospital is to reduce medical tourism in the country by
making the place is a medical center of excellence.
Bishop
Nwokolo commended the Board and management of the hospital for their sacrifices
in making the hospital a destination place for all kinds of health challenges
sequel to the presence of Consultants and Specialists attracted to the hospital
for proper Medicare of ailing public.
He said
soonest the mission of making the hospital a tertiary Institution like Nnamdi
Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) would be actualized following the
quality of health professionals in the hospital. There is already school of
Nursing and Midwifery in the institution doing great.
Earlier in his remarks, the chairman Hospital
management Board, Sir Ike Onyechi, said that the people of the state and most
especially the Anglican Mission, owners of
the hospital are delighted at the partnership between the government and
the Church for the health of the people. He thanked the governor for using available resources to work for the people of the state, while urging him to do more for the interest of all Nigerians.
Indeed , it was praise galore for the Anambra State
Government and management of Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital, Ogidi, Idemili North Local
Government Area of Anambra state for making the difference in health
institution in Anambra state and Nigeria at large following patients visiting
the hospital across the 36 states of the Federation and Abuja on daily basis.
