FG Bars Foreign Graduates From NYSC

Nigerians who graduated from foreign universities without possessing basic requirement entry  as demanded
by Nigerian universities are henceforth to be barred from participating in the  mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
The Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai, disclosed this yesterday, while receiving the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Nnamdi Okorie Affia, in her office in Abuja.

The minster reiterated the possession of the minimum entry requirements before gaining admission into any foreign university as fundamental to being accorded recognition as a graduate. She decried the rush by students to gain admissions abroad with deficient basic requirements only to return and pester the ministry for clearance to serve.
She said: ‘’We might not certify any graduate that does not meet up with basic entry requirements and who did not follow the internationally recognised bridging requirements’’, the minister said.

On the upgraded list of accredited foreign universities, the minister said that the recognition of universities is usually done globally following internationally approved standards.
Earlier in his remark at the occasion, the NYSC boss had said that his delegation had come to seek clarifications on the issue of the mobilization for NYSC, graduates from foreign universities, and the clarification on the minimum basic requirements that must be met before being mobilized.
