``True leadership goes with sacrifice’’ – Archbishop Okeke reminds political, traditional rulers

Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, has urged political and traditional rulers to exemplify their leadership through personnel and sacrificial commitment to their people’s welfare.

``True leadership goes with sacrifice,’’ Okeke said in an Easter Message he delivered at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha in Anambra on Saturday.

The theme of the archbishop’s Easter Message was ``Learning Leadership from Christ’’.

He said that leadership as exemplified by Christ is all about sacrifice and taking risk for the welfare of mankind both physically, spiritually and eternally.

``As we select those, who would serve us, those who will lead us; those who will take us to the next level in human and infrastructural development etc; we need to choose those who are ready to sacrifice.

``And those of us, who aspire to the position of leadership, should know that they are aspiring to serve and to sacrifice.

``I pray for our country that those who have been elected or those to be elected in the approximate future to lead us, would also been ready to sacrifice for the common good.

``Will also be ready to sacrifice for the betterment of the society and for all to be ready to sacrifice for Nigeria to take her rightful place in the comity of nations.

``I believe we can go far and further, from where we are, with good leadership.

``I pray that God will grant us good leaders and those who lead will see themselves as servant and be ready to sacrifice,’’ he said.

The archbishop prayed for the country’s leaders; while pronouncing blessings on the nation and her leaders and people.

On Anambra, the cleric said that he look forward to the time the state would be first among other states in the country in all aspect of human endeavours and development.

``Anambra would take the lead among states with good governance, advancement, in human development and material development.

``So that others could learn and Nigeria could be better. May, we truly be - the light of the nation - .
