Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University,
Awka Prof Joseph Ahaneku yesterday led
the Anambra state Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke , former Vice Chancellor of
the University, Prof Ilochi Okafor and wife as well as the National
President of
the Nigerian
Society of
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Prof. Obi Njoku
of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka among others to
listen to the 25th inaugural lecture of the University as presented
by Prof Emeka Ezeonu.
Prof
Ahaneku got accolades for not only bringing back the University tradition but
for adding valve to it by insisting the University sponsor the inaugural
lectures excluding personal reception.
The University
Auditorium was filled with dignitaries and outside too and luckily there were
no rains.
Prof
Francis Chukwuemeka Ezeonu , a Professor of Environmental Biochemistry and
Toxicology did the 25th
inaugural lecture as chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Joseph .E Ahaneku .
His topic was
‘’poisons in the Nigerian Environment: within our reach , beyond our
control’’.
Chairman
of the Inaugural lecture committee, Prof Amechi Oyeka , a woman of substance
encouraged others to kick start professing as a time table was already drawn up
to 2016.
Prof
Ezeonu , currently the Director of Research, Innovation and Development Nnamdi
Azikiwe University , Awka is the first Alumnus PhD graduate in Nnamdi
Azikiwe University; First graduate to be appointed into the rank of
Professorship and first graduate of the university to do his inaugural lecture
as well as the first to do inaugural in the department of Biochemistry.
Prof
Ezeonu has been Prof in the last 13 years and today the voice of the oracle was
heard as his inaugural lecture was not only rich but expressive.
Dr Jane Ezeonu was just splendid in her outing and
happy too for the crowd that came to listen to her husband profess about poison
as Professor of Environmental Biochemistry and Toxicology. Emeka is indeed a
stuff as he proved today to the admiration of the audience.
The lecture snippets will be served you in this blog but not without telling you that
Prof Ezeonu insisted that our laboratories are poorly equipped because they
lack the necessary tools and equipment for first rate research………………………………
