Edo State Police Command arrested 13
persons for various electoral offences in the
April 11 House of Assembly
election across the 18 local government areas of the state.
The command had arrested eight
suspects for electoral offences in the presidential and National Assembly
elections in the state.
Police Public Relations Officer,
Joseph Edoigiawerie, told The PUNCH on the telephone on Tuesday, that
some of the suspects were arrested for snatching ballot papers and disrupting
voting.
He explained that 10 of the suspects
were arrested in Auchi while three others were arrested in Igbobazuwa, in
Etsako West and Ovia South West Local Government Areas, respectively.
Edoigiawerie, who said information
could not be provided on whether arms were recovered from the suspects,
however, noted that all the electoral offenders would be charged to court at
the end of investigations.
“Yes, there were some arrests; 10 at
Igbobazuwa and three at Auchi. They were arrested for electoral offences,
including ballot paper snatching.
“At the end of investigations, they
will be charged to court,” he said.
