reports that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)
candidate for Nnewi
North/Nnewi South and Ekwusigo federal constituency in the just concluded
National Assembly election, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (jnr) has
described as an act of brigandage and daylight electoral robbery for the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to have claimed victory in the last Saturday’s
national Assembly polls.
Ojukwu wondered how PDP would win
him with 44,747 allotted to its candidate, Hon Chris Emeka Azubogu and 30,994 allotted
to him to the second position as "purportedly announced" by the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Chief Ojukwu said the result was not
roundly acceptable to him, adding that the INEC should not issue any
certificate of return to the said winner which he insisted must be challenged
at the tribunal.
He said that those he described as
the perpetrators of the electoral fraud had showed no respect for his late
father and Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. Ojukwu (jnr) noted
that the electoral fraud had added credence to the saying that Igbo do not
respect their leaders. He argued that it would have been a different thing if
he had been beaten at the polls "which I know is not possible" other
than the electoral fraud he accused the PDP to have committed.
Ojukwu who has been reappointed as
the Sole Administrator of Nnewi North Council Area by Governor Obiano alleged
that the a PDP bigwig in the zone stormed the collation centre at the INEC
office in Nnewi South Local Government Headquarters with written results when
collation was on, chased INEC officials and ad-hoc staff away and scattered already
recorded INEC sensitive materials all over the premises. He alleged that it was
in the course of that action that the electoral fraud was committed in a
commando style.
"We have enough evidence to
prove that we won that March 28 election for House of Representatives in Nnewi
North/Nnewi South and Ekwusigo federal constituency. We campaigned vigorously
to deserve victory and our people turned up enmass to ensure our victory at the
poll. At the appropriate time, we shall reclaim our stolen mandate,"
Ojukwu (jnr) said.
