FRSC set to rid Anambra of fake number plates

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has announced its preparedness to rid Anambra state of fake number plates as it would deal

decisively with motorists parading fake plate numbers within Anambra.

The FRSC Co-ordinator of Special Marshals and Partnership in Anambra, Mr. Ben Osaka, said after he led FRSC Special Marshals to a facility tour at the corps Regional Plate Plant, Awka in Anambra.

His words:``From henceforth we will clampdown on motorists with fake number plates and follow them to the places where they got the plates to break the ring of the syndicate,’’ 

He urged motorists to exercise patience and go through the various states’ board of internal revenue to obtain genuine vehicle number plates.

``We have been enlightened with this tour and we will go out to get things done rightly; we have to educate the entire motorists in the state on how and where to get the right number plates.

``By next week; we begin road education and clampdown in Nnewi, which we have identified as a black spot.

``It will just take us one or two years, the story will be different in this state,’’ he assured.

 Earlier, Head of Department, FRSC Special Marshals and Partnership, Mr Gabriel Akinola, said that the command had already deployed the services of sister security agencies to track number plates racketeers.

Akinola said that some of the racketeers had been caught already; while justice is taking its course on them within the court.

``We have been apprehending them, but the new move would make us combine enforcement with education especially for the unsuspecting members of the public, who patronize these touts, to know how to get the genuine plate number.

``The special marshals and regular marshals will not only monitor the roads, but will go to public and worship places to educate the people on the issue in the state,’’ he said.
