The management of Chukwuemeka
Odumegwu Ojukwu University
(COOU), Igbariam in Anambra has honoured five
graduates of the institution who bagged first class degrees after their
academic pursuit.
The institution on Thursday also conferred on late Dim Chukwuemeka
Odumegwu Ojukwu a post humous honorary degree as well as honorary degree on
Senate President, David Mark.
Speaking at the 6th convocation of the University, Gov. Willie Obiano of
Anambra reiterated the commitment of his administration in revitalising the
education system in the state.
Obiano, who donated a 500 KVA transformer to the University, promised to
implement the recommendations of the visitation panel which was set up last
year on higher institutions in the state.
In his speech, Prof. Fidelis Okafor, the Vice chancellor of the
institution, thanked the state government for their support to the institution
but maintained that there was need for more facility upgrade.
Okafor congratulated the graduands and charged them to be good
ambassadors of the institution, urging them to use the knowledge acquired to
create wealth and job opportunities for themselves.
The institution’s chancellor, Maj.-Gen. Felix Mujakperuo(Rtd) lauded
life and times of Dim Ojukwu whose name the University was renamed, saying it
was a good way to immotalise him for his struggles.
“You should therefore struggle to be creative as you search for self
actualisation.
“I urge you all to become good ambassadors of this great university
while carving a niche for yourselves in the world of business and commerce.
“Shun all vices which can distract you from your roles as good citizen,”
Mujakperuo charged the graduands.

class degree were Kingsley Enekanma of the department of Electrical/Electronic
Engineering and Chimezie Onuzulike of Law department.
Others are Ekene Okafor of Statistics department, Obiorah Uzor of Public
Admiistration department and Michael Iyebeye of Microbiology department who
bagged the best graduating student award.
