It was an atmosphere for the
rendition of solidarity songs by the Anambra State Chapter of the Nigeria Union
of Local Government Employees ( NULGE )
at the secretariat complex Awka
as the organization endorsed and equally adopted Chief Victor Umeh as its candidate
for the Anambra-Central senatotial zone elections next month.
State President of the trade
organization comrade Jerry Nnubia stated that what informed the adoption of
Chief Victor Umeh as the organization's candidate for the senatorial election
was that out of the candidates gonning for the senatorial seat in
Anambra-Central , the organization singled out Chief Umeh as a result of his
track record of good deeds as national chairman of APGA and as a true
representative of the igbo nation .
Comrade Nnubia equally observed that
judging from the way the APGA senatorial candidate has piloted his affairs ,
APGA as a party and above all the achievements of the APGA government in
the state since inception , all formed the bedrock of the union's decision to
back Chief Victor Umeh in his political ambition .
He therefore made it pointblank that
even though the union was apolitical as well as non-partisan , he was equally
of the opinion that there is no law in the land preventing civil servants from
being partisan or non-partisan citing Labour Party as a veritable example
adding that NULGE is a stakeholder in the politics of Anambra State .
Chief Victor Umeh on the other hand
said that the endorsement by NULGE was a great tonic and propelling force to him
. Chief Umeh stated that he had received several of such endorsements and
support from various bodies and organizations in recent times stressing that
they were all eloquent testimonies that the people repose much confidence in
his ability to provide honest representation .
According to Umeh , other candidates
coming to lure trade unions and other organizations to adopt them have no
mission statements . He however drew the attention of all and sundry to the
on-going attempts by some opponents of his to blackmail as well as pull
him down through defacing and destruction of his campaign materials at
strategic locations in Anambra-central senatorial zone noting that he was
unperturbed by the development as he believes that the people knows who has the
acumen and expertise to provide quality representation .
