Police confirms 37 Thugs Murder House of Assembly Candidate in Ebonyi , confirms murder of party supporter

The Police in Ebonyi have confirmed the murder of one Ifeanyi Onu, a Labour Party supporter from Umunaga Ward in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the development to www.odogwublog.com  in Abakaliki on Friday.

Anyanwu said the matter had been transferred from the Divisional Police Office in the local government area to the command’s headquarters in Abakaliki.

“The homicide department is handling the matter. More information on it would be made public as soon we get them’’, he said.
Chief Chaka Nweze, the caretaker Chairman of the council, said that Onu was killed on Monday night by suspected political thugs.

“They abducted him at about 10p.m., dragged him several kilometres from his home and inflicted severe machete cuts on him for refusing to join a political party.
“When they saw his friend and relations coming towards them to rescue him, they shot him at close range, perhaps thinking that his friends would inform the police,” he said.
The chairman said some friends of the victim had identified five people suspected to be involved in the killing of Onu.
Nweze said that he immediately reported the incident to the Mobile police commander in the area.

Meanwhile, a Labour Party (LP) House of Assembly candidate in the 2015 general elections, Udu Emegha,   has been killed by some thugs suspected to be members of other political parties, Police report say.

Confirming this to newsmen on Tuesday in Abakiliki, capital of Ebonyi, the state’s police spokesman, Chris Anyanwu, said Emegha was killed during an attack on Labour Party supporters in the state.

He said: ‘’A group of hoodlums…besieged the house of the deceased and attacked him, beating him to coma….Udu Emegha later gave up the ghost.”

‘’The exhibits recovered include three cutlasses with blood stain, a single barrel gun and some expanded cartridges.

‘’The state CID has just commenced investigation into the matter and the cause of this murder will be unraveled. So far we have arrested 37 suspects in connection with the murder, “Anyanwu disclosed.
