PROTOCOLS
It is indeed an honour and privilege to be standing here this morning to welcome you, our distinguished guests, to the ABS 30th anniversary lecture. This lecture officially marks the start of the ABS Media Leadership Forum to be held annually.
I am most gratefully and humbly doing this on behalf of the following people; His Excellency, the hardest working governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano (Akpokuodike Aguleri and Ekwueme 1 of ABS) who has most kindly passed on this torch to me in trust on behalf of Ndi Anambra as MD/CEO, with the charge to break new grounds with ABS, to make ABS the shinning light and example in the whole of the South East, to transform ABS into a world class media and entertainment brand, to bring back the happy and glory days and to make ABS the pride of Ndi Anambra and friends of Ndi Anambra the world over.
I am also welcoming us all on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Tony Onyima (Ife Idelimi), my very supportive 'Oga at the top'.
The brand new, almost day old Board of Directors of the Anambra Broadcasting Service led by the Chairman, Mr. Emeka Maduegbuna and the members: Prof. Mrs Kate Omenugha, Mr. Marcel Manafa, Sir Leo Imoka, Chief Tony Onyima, Dr. Mrs Patricia Ndu and lastly my humble self.
Also, the hard working and committed management and staff of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, the magicians and miracle workers that have despite enormous challenges continued to man the news desks, scour every horizon in search of news and information to serve Ndi Anambra fresh on a daily basis.
I say 'Nno nu'. 'Ukwu unu ji bia ka unu ga eji kwa naa na aha Jesus', Amen.
While inaugurating the ABS Board at the Government lodge yesterday, His Excellency said that although ABS was celebrating its 30th anniversary, the journey to him is just about to begin. He was talking about a journey into an exciting digital future especially with the brand new digital studio and equipments, the contract of which His Excellency has most kindly awarded.
I want to specially welcome Prof Pat Utomi home. He may be from Delta state but Anambra state is still his home as his his in-laws at Amawbia will readily agree with me. Thank you once again Prof for agreeing to deliver our 30th anniversary lecture. We are humbled everyday by your selfless and exemplary life and commitments to propagating the ideals of a better society. History will be kind to you sir.
The ABS 30th anniversary day proper is on the 14th of March but we started the celebrations in January 2015 with the launch of the ABS 30th anniversary promo and raffle draw. We have on offer fantastic prizes to be won including a brand new Kia Rio. The tickets are on sale in this hall and outside. Like they say, 'E fit be you o', and you have to be in it to win.
We are continuing with our thank you and appreciation tour of all the 21 Local Government Areas in Anambra state. Watch out for the ABS team in your LGA soon. Our 30th anniversary events calendar can be downloaded from our website www.absradiotv.com and is also in the ABS Heartbeat magazine which will be unveiled at this event.
Finally, I want to thank the ABS Alumni, the boys and girls of the days gone by, for agreeing to come and be a part of this. Listening to Ngozi Ibegbu serenade us with her smooth voice and slow jams last night on ABS 88.5 FM brought back sweet memories. It will be Chuzi Iboko's turn today to take us back to the Locomotion days. Hopefully, Chief Pete Edochie will have time to take us through a session of Music with the masters before he leaves town.
His Royal Highnesses, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, my colleagues from other media organisations, our partners and sponsors, thank you once again for coming and please do enjoy the lecture.
