Obiano’s broadcast during the Presidential election

Ndi Anambra, in all democratic cultures known to man, no time is as important as the election
time. This is because, election times are times when the popular will of the people…their hopes and aspirations for a better society and their quest for a better social contract with their leaders are all expressed through the symbolic exercise of casting a vote.
Ndi Anambra, as we prepare to join our fellow Nigerians across the country in choosing our leaders, we must all remember that we are doing two things at the same time – First, we are asking for a better deal from our leaders … and second, we are ensuring that democracy takes firm roots in Nigeria. Ndi Anambra, as responsible citizens, we must all come out to vote for the candidates of our choice on March 28 and April 11 this year. We must all lend a hand to efforts to preserve our democratic culture. Ndi Anambra, I must not fail to emphasize that as your governor, I maintain my neutrality as the father of the state. My ultimate wish is to see that every citizen is given the chance to vote and be voted for in a peaceful atmosphere.
Fellow citizens, as the Chief Security Officer of Anambra State, I have the assurances of all the service commanders in this state that these elections shall be free, fair and transparent. However, I must not fail to remind you that in any democratic contest, there are winners and losers. So, we must resist the temptation to take the laws into our hands or condemn the voting process when candidates of our choice fail to win. My administration has the resolve and the capacity to deal decisively with anyone who wants to breach the peaceful atmosphere we enjoy in Anambra State today.

Ndi Anambra, let us work for peace!

God Bless Anambra State

God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Thank you

Chief Willie Obiano
Governor
