Mixed reactions trail
presidential and National Assembly elections in Anambra State
as late arrival
of electoral materials, inactive card reader machines , late commencement of
accreditation of voters and a host of other logistics characterised the
entire process .
In the
course of monitoring the exercise in Anambra-North senatorial zone , newsmen
gathered from the speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly , who is also
the APGA candidate for Ogbaru federal constituency in the election Princess
Chinwe Nwaebili that there was something fishy about the whole process.
Princess
Nwaebili who was accosted by newsmen at Iyiowa\Odekpe polling unit 05 Ogbaru
lamented that the delay in the whole process was caused by INEC stressing that
accreditation of voters should have commenced at 8 am according to the apex
election management but there were no materials as at the aforesaid time .
The
speaker therefore expressed displeasure at the level of preparedness of INEC in
the conduct of the 2015 elections even as she described the turn out of voters
in the area as very impressive.
On the
other hand former commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Matters and
APGA candidate Anambra-North senatorial zone Hon.Dubem Obaze equally complained
about the late commencement of accreditation of voters . Hon.Obaze stated that
as at 8 am there was no sign of accreditation at CPS 406 ward Ochu-Uche Umuodu
Ogbaru where he was supposed to be accredited.
Though he
was hopeful that nobody would be disenfranchised as a result of the logistic
issues following the commencement of accreditation of voters at 1 pm . He said
he was not suspecting any foul play but expressed optimism that he would win
the senatorial election in his zone.
At polling unit 001 central
school Akili-Ozizor Ogbaru , accreditation ended successfully at 3 :30 pm
according to the information made available to newsmen by an INEC official at
the polling unit . While voting according to the INEC official would commence
in earnest as he said they were waiting for instructions from the supervising
presiding officer before voting would commence.
Meanwhile a voter Mrs.Grace
Nwabueze who spoke to journalists about the situation said that she came to the
polling unit at 8 am but waited until about 12 noon when INEC officials arrived
with the electoral materials .
Mrs.Nwabueze however posited
that she was accredited thereafter but not sure when voting will commence at
the polling unit .
