FCE(T) Umunze Holds 26th/ NCE, 4th Degree/PDE Matriculation Ceremony…as Ahaneku, Ogbuagu task students on academic excellence, discipline

Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Anambra state,
Professor Josephat Ogbuagu, has reiterated the stand of the college on zero
tolerance for cultism, exam malpractice and other social vices.
Addressing
the entrants during the 26th NCE and 4th degree/PDE joint
matriculation ceremony held at the permanent site of the college Saturday,
Prof. Ogbuagu reminded them that “the matriculation oath which you will
subscribe is to place a burden of good behavior on you. This implies that
henceforth, your behavior will constantly monitored to access your suitable to be
a student of this college
He
therefore tasked the new students to work hard to justify their admission into
the college saying “to be able to do this, you need the fear of God, moral
rejuvenation, academic alertness, self-discipline and the capacity to resist
negative peers influence.
He
advised the freshmen to resist any temptation of involving themselves in
anti-social behaviours and warned them against indecent dressing, cheating and
malpractices stressing that the college deals decisively with all offenders and
the consequences of exam malpractices is expulsion.
His
words: “we shall not hesitate to expel any student whose behavior does not
conform to the acceptance norms of this college. The students’ handbook will
direct you on your privileges and responsibilities as well as the rules and
regulations guiding students’ lives in the college. He assured the students
that the University will not renege on its duty to offer them the needed
support to enable them actualize their dreams and aspirations. He however urged
them to make their own input, stating that “to whom much is given, much is also
expected”.
He
noted that “the College is a place where people are trained in moral,
character, learning, hard work and commitment. It is to meet these felt needs
and narrow existing gaps that my administration had decided to elevate the
College to Degree awarding status by affiliating to Nnamdi Azikiwe University,
Awka and had continued to widen the college academic programmes as a concrete
demonstration of our effort liberalize and increase our educational
opportunities for all who have the intellectual potentials to be admitted.
In
an address, the Vice-Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof.
Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku who was represented by the Dean Faculty of Education, Professor Emma Agbamuche said the University reserved a very
special welcome for the new students who are being formally admitted into the
“university of their Dreams” through their affiliated college, even as he
congratulated the students for their success during the admission stage. He
said, “it gives me pleasure to be here once again, this time for the 26th/4th
joint matriculation of new entrants to NCE programme of your institution and
the degree programme of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in affiliation with
university. I congratulate you all for it is no mean feat to be admitted into
either Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze or Nnamdi Azikiwe
University, both of which are top flight institutions.”
Ahaneku
who restated the essence of the affiliation of the College with Nnamdi Azikiwe
University, said that the affiliation “affords those of you admitted under
affiliation structure the rare privilege of studying for a degree of the
University in academic programmes domiciled in the college but whose curricula
and other requirements meet the academic standard of the university.”
He
urged the students to make use of the facilities at their disposal in the
College to graduate on-time with a Diploma of the College or Degree of Nnamdi
Azikiwe University as appropriate, adding that for the students to achieve all
these, they must be guarded against absenteeism at lectures, exam misconduct,
certificate forgery and cultism” he noted.
Speaking
shortly after the matriculation, a first year student, Nwimo Lawrence
Chukwudike, department of Library and Information Science, expressed determination
to excel in his academic work, while he also pledged to abide by the rules and
regulations of the college. “I feel so excited and fulfilled. He expressed
gratitude to God and the college management for finding her worthy of
admission.
Also,
Ibeneme Stella, department of Agriculture and Home Economics, expressed
gratitude to God for her to have scaled through the rigour of the college’s
admission process.
”I cannot just quantify my happiness today
because my admission into this institution of academic excellence is more of a
privilege than luck,” saying: “My expectations are high for the journey ahead;
to be a woman of character and great reputation at the end of it all.”
