reports that Onitsha was agog for President Goodlcuk Jonathan as over three
thousand (3,000) youths yesterday marched through major streets in Onitsha
metropolis for the re-election campaign of President Goodlcuk Jonathan and Namadi
Sambo. The rally was organized by a Non Governmental Organization (NGO),
"Youths of Today.
The youths urged their counterparts
to obtain their permanent voters' card and vote the candidacy of President
Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28th Presidential Election. They were
convincing, resolute and dogged in their mission.
The youths later converged at the
Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Awka Road Onitsha after marching to Upper New Market and
Old Market Roads and the Onitsha Main Market through various parts of Onitsha
chanting praises of President Jonathan and the need for continuity in office.
At the ever busy Old Market Road
axis to Ose-Okwuodu Market, the youths stopped at intervals distributing some
leaflets which contained some of the achievements of the president.
Traders and other market women who
could not endure the Jonathan musical jingles played on the musical van that
accompanied the convoy took to various dancing steps, whereas others waved
their hands in admiration of the rally which was organized by an NGO, known as
"Youths of Today".
They were accompanied by men and
officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and their
counterparts of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) even though they had
a hectic time controlling human and vehicular movement.

reports further that at Sokoto Road and Niger street axis of the metropolis,
hawkers of various types of textile materials joined in the frenzy, while shop
owners and artisans waved their hands from the storey buildings in admiration
of the youths.
Speaking to the press, one of the
coordinators of the rally, "Youths of Today" for Jonathan, Comrade
Iyke Ozobia said that the rally was held in support of President Jonathan's
continuity in office as his administration has better programmes for Nigerian
youths and charged the youths to obtain their voter's cards now that the
elections are around the corner.
He further stressed the need for
youths to shun election violence as it has never benefited them.
