Breaking news: Bomb explosion rocks Awka, Anambra state Capital




An early morning explosion has rocked a polling unit in Awka at Atom Umuokpara primary school, Awka ward one.


www.odogwublog.com gathered from resident of the area on arrival that the explosion happened at 7:05 in the morning with a loud bang that sent residents of the area scampering for safety.

An eye witness and community leader in the area, Aiza Nwosu said the explosion may not be unconnected with today's election, but may have been targeted at scaring voters away.

The explosion which shattered a class room in the school also removed a window in the class.

It was gathered that an unexploded bomb is still in the class, and as at the time of filling this report, anti bomb squad was still being awaited.

Member representing the area in the house of reps, Hon Nwogbo declined comments, saying he has no reaction to the incident.

INEC team arrived 8:40 am while Bomb disposal team arrived 9:09. 
Past National publicity secretary of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Ralph Ndigwe  decried the explosion.
