reports that Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has directed the state
Commissioners of Lands and Transport to liaise with each other
and find
suitable places as soon as possible for the establishment of five mechanic
villages in the state.
He directed that the five mechanic
villages should be established and equipped by the state government in the five
zones of Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Idemili and Aguata as part of efforts to boost
man-power development and create room for self employment among our youths.
Obiano gave this directive in Awka
when members of Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association, NATA and South
East/South South Drivers Welfare Association tipped President Goodluck Jonathan
and Chief Victor Umeh for victory during Saturday's Presidential and Senatorial
elections in the state.
Obiano pointed out that the need to
establish such mechanic villages in various parts of the state cannot be
over-emphasized as it would help in decongesting our roads, creating job
opportunities for our youths and assist in developing our technical skills.
He therefore urged automobile
technicians to eschew all forms of cheating against their customers or in
some cases, vandalizing their customers' vehicles for the purpose of extorting
monies from them, warning that the long arm of law would catch up with such a
cheater..
He commended NATA and the Drivers
Welfare Association for tipping Jonathan for victory during the Presidential
election under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Umeh for victory during
the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone election under the All Progressives Grand
Alliance, APGA and urged them to vote massively for the duo of Jonathan and
Umeh on Saturday.
Earlier, Umeh had commended both
associations for joining others like Anambra Women Organization, National Union
of Local Government Employees, NULGE, among others in endorsing him for victory
so far and urged them to also assist in securing victory for all the three
senatorial seats, 11 House of Representatives seats and 30 House of Assembly
seats in the state, so that they would team up with Obiano's APGA government to
take the state to a higher height.
Umeh assured them that he would go
to the senate and make more meaningful impact for Ndigbo, just as he did during
the last Constitutional Conference where he courageously stood firm and
introduced programmes that were favourable to Ndigbo.
Earlier in an address jointly signed
by Chief Augustine Okafor and Comrade Felix Adigwe, state chairman and
secretary respectively, NATA had explained that Obiano's four-cardinal
programmes had brought a great turn-around to the state within his one year in
office as governor.
Insisting that Obiano has made
remarkable achievements in the areas of security of lives and property, which
has boosted our infrastructural development and increased Internally Generated
Revenue, IGR of the state, NATA reminded Obiano that if mechanic villages are
established, a lot of their members stand the chance to benefit from one
another, while serving NYSC members would also come to the village to learn
more about automobile engineering.
President of Drivers Welfare
Association, Chief Nnamdi Okafor assured Umeh and Obiano that their members
would work relentlessly towards ensuring victory for Jonathan at the
presidential election and for APGA candidates in other categories.
