The
Onitsha Main Market protest that grounded business activities on Wednesday
caused by some traders who rejected the payment of N200 CCTV Security levy
earlier agreed by the market leadership and management of Metro Digital Mobile
Company for installation of
security cameras in various strategic points in the
market has been attributed to political parties reports www.odogwublog.com .
The
Metro Digital Mobile company accused some All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) supporters in the market of orchestrating the protest to
rubbish the “wonderful” security network of the state governor which the Anambra
State Governor, Dr. Willie Obiano has won several accolades across the country
for.
Chief
Technical Officer, (CTO) Metro Digital Mobile, Mr. James Chinedu in a chat
revealed that some sponsored traders who were suspected to be agents of PDP and
APC in the market were always in the habit of disagreeing with the majority
views of the market leadership with the aim of rubbishing the good work of the
state government via-the security achievement of the state governor.
He observed that the installation of the security system was in sequence of an
earlier agreement the company reached with the Anambra State Government
in conjunction with Anambra Markets Traders’ Association(AMATAS) and
leadership of Onitsha Main Market but expressed dismay over the inability of
some traders to honour their own part of the agreement.
Chinedu Stated that as a progressive enterprise which has
already entered into partnership with the Anambra State Government and the
market leadership, no amount of pressure nor intimidation would deter the
company from assisting the state government in preventing and dictating
criminal activities in and around Onitsha Main Market.
He warned the aggrieved traders not to drag the company into
dirty politics as it was carrying out its own part of the agreement not only as
a business enterprise, but as one which holds the security of lives and
property of the people in high esteem.
