Anambra state government yesterday promised to
undertake to pay the hospital bills of the victims of a fire incident at
Ezinwafor, Mbaukwu, in Awka south local Government Area, that claimed 4

www.odogwublog.com had reported the incident exclusively on Tuesday that the fire razed a
six room and parlour apartment, left only the family head, Mr Friday Alagbo and
wife alive with severe burns but the wife later died at the hospital.
The victims were Chibuike Alagbo, aged three,
Chimobi Alagbo, aged one, Chigozie Alagbo who was two months old and an elderly
woman known as mama Nweke, aged sixty.
Governor Willie Obiano visited the hospital to
empathize with the victim in company of the state commissioner for health Dr
Josephat Akabuike; the special adviser to the governor on youth empowerment, Dr
Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the chairman of Awka South LGA Prince Azubuike Iloh among
others.
Speaking at the hospital when he visited the Mbaukwu
fire victims at a private hospital in Awka, Governor Willie Obiano cautioned
the people against keeping inflammable materials inside their house.
He further disclosed that his government is
re-equipping the State fire service, and appealed to the doctor to do all he
could to save the life of the surviving fire victim.
The parents of the children, Mr and Mrs Friday and
Uchenna Alagbo were rushed to the hospital, but his wife gave up the ghost
after a thirty six hour battle with death.
Commenting on the present condition of the man, the
medical director of the hospital, Dr Amechi Nwachukwu confirmed the death of Mrs
Uchenna Alagbo, but said that Mr Alagbo who received 65 percent burns is
gradually recuperating.
He commended the prompt response and visit by state
government officials including Governor Willie Obiano to the hospital to see
the victim.
The victim, Mr Friday Alagbo thanked the State
government and other sympathizers for coming to their aid.
