Anambra State Government has embarked on youth
sensitization in all the tertiary institution in the state, urging students to
shun desperate politicians,
who could employ their indulgence to commit
violence, thuggery among other electoral fraud.
Speaking at
A-One Day Youth Election Empowerment and Leadership Summit held at Chukwuemeka
Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, on Thursday ahead of
2015 general elections, , entitled “Eradicating
Electoral Violence and Thuggery Among Youth”, Anambra State Governor, Chief
Willie Obiano told youths that violence is capable of terminating their future.
Obiano,
who was represented by his Special Adviser on Youth Empowerment, Dr.
Onyekachukwu Ibezim, also admonished youths to always disregard incitement
speeches and gratifications from politicians with a view to avoid shedding
innocent blood in the name of election.
He
enjoined youths to be contented on what they have and avoid seeking for wealth
either by hooks or crooks, even as he reiterated his determination to continue
to empower them in all ramifications.
The
Governor later unveiled plans to conduct similar training at other tertiary
institutions in the state before the March 28 and April 11 general Polls.
Resource
persons who spoke at the training, including Prof. Walter Nwafia, a Professor
of Clinical Physiology; Dr. Laz Okafor, a representative of the state ministry
of education; Mr. Ken Okolie and Hon. Tony Uche underscored the importance of
permanent voters card (PVC), and admonished Nigerians to get one each as that
would enable them to exercise their franchise.
