NIPR Anambra : Obiano signs over 1,000 hectares of land to improve agriculture ---set to engage over 1,000 youths
Governor Willie Obiano
of Anambra state as part of his resolve to transform agricultural sector in the
state has signed for usage of over 1000 hectares of land for
mechanized farming
in the state, even as it has concluded plans to train over 1000 youths of the
state on various fields of agriculture reports www.odogwublog.com .
Commissioner for
Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Nnamdi Mekoh, disclosed this while
interacting with the member of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR)
led by its state chairman, Rev. Fr. Dr. Cosmos Ebebe during a courtesy visit to
his office on Thursday.
He noted that the signed
1000 hectares of land and others would be provided with irrigation so as to
enable farmers’ mass produce and process at both raining and dry seasons.
Mekoh enumerated the
training centers for the youths to be engaged to include Anambra State College
of Agriculture, Mgbakwu for the people of Anambra Central Senatorial zone;
Okija for Anambra South; and Nteje for Anambra North.
He added that the
workshop was aimed at inculcating the knowledge of mechanized fish farming,
livestock production, landscaping, livestock farming, crops production and
processing, and among others, with a view to boosting food production,
employment opportunities, as well as to increase the state internally generated
revenue.
He recalled that the
ministry had earlier distributed free seedlings, fertilizers, loans and even as
it tilled lands for mechanized farmers for free, and reiterated that Obiano’s
administration was determined to do more in all sectors.
The Commissioner for
Agriculture and Rural Development while stressing that the state would focus
more attention on production and processing of rice, tomatoes, maize and
cassava.
He therefore solicited
for the support of NIPR in enlightening the public on the need to key into the
programmes of the state Government.
Earlier, the State
Chairman of NIPR, Rev. Fr. Dr. Cosmos Ebebe averred that the visit was meant to
inform him their resolve to partner with him and the ministry of agriculture
with a view to moving Anambra State forward, as well as to formally invite him
to come and present a key note address at their forthcoming state seminar.
