This is coming as the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra state said it has distributed a
total of One Million , three hundred and
fifty-five thousand ,ninety hundred and
nine (1, 355, 909) Permanent Voter Cards ( PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming
general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commission
(REC), Mr. Edwin Nwatarali who briefed newsmen on Wednesday said the figure
represents 79 percent of a total of 1, 917, 882 PVCs so far received by the
commission in the state from the national headquarters, Abuja.
He, however disclosed that the
commission in the state is still awaiting to receive a total of 45, 545 PVCs to
make up the shortfall for a total of 1,963, 000 registered voters in the state.
The INEC state boss also stated that
the commission in the state has taken delivery of a total of 5,133 Card Readers
to be used in the conduct of the general elections and that extra 1,000 Card
Readers were also procured as a back-up, adding that about three card readers
would be distributed to each of the 326 wards in the state.
He also stated that a about 22,000
ad-hoc staff have been recruited to assist the commission conduct the general
elections in the state and that all of them have been properly trained and
would be given refresher training before the conduct of the election.
