Crisis: Group urges NASS to takeover Ebonyi Assembly

A group known as Network for Democratic Vanguard in Ebonyi State has called on the National Assembly to take over the Ebonyi State House of Assembly forthwith in order to prevent further breakdown of law and order by the lawmakers.

This is even as there are speculations that members of the state House of Assembly have perfected the impeachment plot against the governor, Martin Elechi, as the House is set to serve the governor the impeachment notice in the next plenary.
National President of the group, Prince Ndubuisi Agbo told a press conference in Abakaliki yesterday that the crisis in the state House of Assembly has degenerated, and that if the National Assembly does not urgently intervene, the state might be engulfed by crisis.
Agbo also disclosed that his group has written to all relevant bodies, calling on them to save the state from imminent war.
“We have written to the Senate Leader, we have written to the House of Representatives and we are going to write to international communities; OAU, EU and other unions. The National Assembly should not waste time to intervene in the House of Assembly crisis, this is necessary because things have fallen apart in the House of Assembly,” he said.
Agbo alleged that some members of the Assembly have concluded plan to impeach the Governor, Martin Elechi on or before March 28 to enable them have their way in the forthcoming general election and accused notable politicians, particularly those based in Abuja, of sponsoring the impeachment plot, describing it as unfortunate.
He regretted that the intervention of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and other concerned groups on the crisis in the Assembly and the state in general has not yielded any positive results.
