Activist Petitions Jonathan, IGP, Over DPO’s Threat To His Life, Corrupt Practices

For allegedly exposing the corrupt practices of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Kwale Police Division, Delta State, Mr. Umeh Udofia,
through his petition to the Inspector General of Police, IGP and President Goodluck Jonathan, the life of a human rights activist, Comrade Martin Obinani Eloka, is now being threatened.

Consequently, he now lives in fear of uncertainty especially after the recent incident in which the police in Kwale stormed his house to effect his arrest in the dead of the night.

“On that fateful day, 23rd November, 2014, about six policemen on plain clothe stormed my house at about 11pm, and because the door was closed, one of them scaled the fence and forced the door open and others came in” he disclosed.

“My household, wife, son and daughter were beaten to pulp and taken to the Police Station, my daughter sustained severe leg injury”, he revealed.

“Are we still in dark ages or military era, no army will treat someone because he complained at the authority about wrong doing in the force. How can they assault my household and threaten my life because I petitioned the IGP and President Goodluck Jonathan on the atrocities the DPO in Kwale is committing on daily basis” he disclosed further.

“My offence was that I pleaded to them to release a man’s motorcycle because he could not afford N10,000 demanded by the Police, instead they charged him to court after some days when it was obvious that he could not afford the money”, he disclosed.

Comrade Eloka, aged 70, is the Chairman of the Kwale branch of Human Right Restoration Movement.

He said he was detained for two days in Asaba by the Sam Akala led state Criminal Investigation Department, CID, over the petition he wrote to IGP and Mr. President.

Urging the IGP, Mr. President and the Police Services Commission to come to his rescue by establishing an investigation team, for justice to prevail, he reiterated that he has now gone under hiding to avoid his sudden death that maybe masterminded by the police.

His words, “we are still in hiding, we no longer sleep in our house, I am afraid to write another petition because the ones written are trying to cause us our lives, Nigerian constitution guarantees freedom of expression”.

“We beg for help to stop them from the continued attack and threat because I expose their atrocities in Kwale, so many illegalities are going on here”, he disclosed.
