Tragedy struck GUO Okeke's company in Onitsha as 7 Luxury Buses , 6 Mini buses , others burnt to ashes
It
was terrific today for the Billionaire transporter, Chief G.U.O Okeke of the
GUO Okeke Group of company’s fame. His
workshop was gutted by a mysterious fire wasting property and vehicles worth over
one hundred of million.
There
was no loss of lives but five people were hospitalized as a result of various wounds sustained fighting the inferno
and suffocation sequel to heavy smoke that they could not withstand.
The
fire which started at about 5pm on Sunday evening 4th January 2015 completely
burnt seven luxurious busses, 6 mini busses and other buses in the workshop were
partially burnt.
www.odogwublog.com correspondent who visited the workshop at
Onitsha Enugu Expressway section of Ogbunike in Anambra state reports that the
inferno was a disaster and incurred a huge loss to Chief G.U.O Okeke . The fire
raged for more than eight hours.
Conducting
newsmen round the workshop, the Public Relation Officer of G.U.O Okeke Group of
companies Dr. Augustine Okigbo expressed dismay over the inferno as the fire
fighting equipments in the workshop used by the workers of the company who were
around during the inferno could not put out the fire as it has gone beyond
their capacity.
According
to him, the inability of the company’s fire assistance to put out the fire not
to spread from one luxury bus to another resulted in the fierce inferno.
“We
cannot put out the fire” as it took us several hours before the arrival of fire
fighting men.
“He
noted that the late arrival of the fire fighters from Onitsha main market and
Okpoko who came late with one tank each could not save the situation as it took
them several hours to put out the fire.
Dr.
Okigbo said the causes of the fire outbreak was yet to be ascertained, but
recalled that chief G.U.O Okeke who is the Director/ Chief Executive of G.U.O
Okeke group of companies was always preaching against miscreants,
hoodlums, kidnappers and armed robbers adding that he was always conscious but
this took everybody unawares.
He
appealed to the state government to equip the fire fighting men to enable them
easily withstand any future occurrence in the state, adding that the fire fighting
men are lacking behind as they don’t have enough equipment that can easily put
out any serious inferno.
In
his word, “they are supposed to be fully equipped to avert escalation of fire
during any fire outbreak in any part of the state.
Dr.
Okigbo also added that the fire outbreak cannot hinder their capacity and
ability to render service to their numerous customers as their buses were at
their various terminals to convey their passengers to various destinations.
