The Vice chancellor of the Dim
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University
Professor Fidelis Okafor has challenged politicians to avoid all forms of
politics of rancor and acrimony in next month’s general elections.
Prof Okafor said
he expects politicians and all stakeholders to work towards avoiding
politics of bitterness and bloodshed in
the 2015 general elections and called on
Nigerians to promote the love of the nation by being patriotic citizens.
Professor
Okafor spoke yesterday to the press at
Ukwulu on the State of the nation, said ideals which favour the nation’s unity should
be pursued vigorously.
According to the nationalist, all hands should be on
deck to make the nation great in spite of the critical challenges threatening
its unity.
Assessing Governor Willy Obiano’s impact in
governance, professor Okafor passed a vote of confidence on his administration
particularly in the area of security which has favored a massive influx of
investors in the state and all time hitch free yuletide celebrations.
On the state university, he commended the Anambra
State government for its positive impact in enhancing its development, but
asked for more assistance in terms of increased funding to enable the
institution address critical challenges facing it.
The vice chancellor acknowledged the contributions
of the institution’s brilliant tutorial and non-tutorial staff as well as its
law abiding students, and called on public spirited individuals, entrepreneurs,
and philanthropists to invest in the university to promote its ideals.
He reaffirmed his commitment towards tackling
headlong the challenges facing the institution.
