A
pro-democracy Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s group, the Social Media Group,
SMG, has said it plans to mobilize N500 million to support the re-election bid
of President Goodluck Jonathan.
National
Coordinator of the group, Mr. Michael Okorie, told newsmen in Abuja that the
project would attract financial donations from Nigerians, who benefited from
Jonathan’s administration.
According
to him, “Nigerians are already donating in support of the re-election of Mr.
President via our donation/pledge forms, direct deposit into approved bank
accounts and online donations.”
Okorie
added that so far, the group had received about N50,000 as pledges from low
income earners in the society.
He
said: “Artisans, barbers, petty traders, youths, women and low income people
are giving their widow’s mite’ because they have been positively affected by
the transformation programmes of Mr. President.”
Okorie
further said the mass donation programme would provide an opportunity for
Nigerians to take ownership of the re-election bid of President Jonathan, “so
that he will continue to be the President of the masses in his second tenure,”
Okorie added.
He
listed some projects of President Goodluck Jonathan to include the YouWin
programme, Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (fertilizer subsidy and seed
distribution) and the SURE-P programme.
