Elechi boycotts Ebonyi PDP campaign rally

The reasons why Ebonyi State Governor, Martin Elechi, yesterday boycotted the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, campaign rally in his home town, Ikwo is emerging. He was not happy for losing the party structure in he state.

The campaign rally of the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Dave Umahi, was attended by former Governor Sam Egwu and Secretary to the Federal Government, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, among others.

In separate speeches, Senator Ayim, who was represented by Mr. Mbaechunna Emmanuel, said PDP will deliver as usual and promised to ensure that PDP wins in Ebonyi especially in Ivo Local Government Area. He noted that any one standing against Umahi in becoming next governor of the state is an enemy of progress and development of the state.

Addressing the gathering, Umahi said he was ready to put an end to the increasing poverty and unemployment in the state, adding that he would restore peace and order especially in the three senatorial zones of the state.

Umahi, a one-time state chairman of PDP, explained that he had garnered the requisite experience and the will to generate the best for the state, and promised fairness to all persons in the state, noting that even as he expected them to vote for him and all the PDP candidates, he appealed to them to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan during the presidential elections.

He said his decision to govern the state was driven by his interest to improve the welfare of his people, drive away poverty and improve the human and infrastructure of the state, and to give them a sense of belonging.

Umahi enjoined party faithful and others to avoid violent acts, saying that even in the event of provocations, they should be tolerant so that the elections would be free, fair and peaceful.

Earlier, Dr. Sam Egwu said Umahi was fit to lead the state having been a successful businessman, chairman of the party in the state and learnt the rudiments of administration, having been a deputy governor, he urged the people to vote for him and other candidates of the party.

Senator Agboti said there is a divine call for Umahi to become the next governor of the state and called on the people to support his candidacy, adding that his leadership would be transparent.
