Oduah Calls APGA Bird Flu, Comes under Attack by Women

The All Progressive Grand Alliance Women for Good Governance (APGA-WGG), Anambra State chapter, yesterday, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to intensify its efforts towards ensuring free and fair credible polls on the 2015 general election.

This was even as the group cautioned the Former Minister of Aviation and factional candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Anambra North Senatorial Zone, Ms. Stella Odua, to be mindful of her utterances, having allegedly described APGA as Bird Flu.

Odua, while flagging-off her senatorial campaign at Central primary School, Omor, Ayemelum Local Government Area of Anambra state, told her mammoth crowd of supporters not to be intimidated by “the state ruling bird flu” as they were unfit to defeat PDP on the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking to newsmen, the Anambra State Coordinator of APGA-WGG, Mrs. Grace Chike, averred that although the group advocates for active participation of women in politics and governance, it will not condone uncouth utterances of some female candidates like Princess Stella Odua, who had rented crowd and informed them not to be intimidated by the state ruling APGA, since the former administration of APGA led by Chief Peter Obi and the incumbent Chief Willie Obiano had tore PDP into pieces through their credible performances.

On the 2015 polls, Mrs. Chike enjoined INEC to ensure that all political parties, their candidates and the voters were given equal participation within and after the election with a view to sustaining and deepening the country’s democracy to its earnest.

According to her, hitch-free general elections would further convince the world that Nigeria is truly the giant of Africa and arsenal of democracy in the sub-Saharan region.

She said: “The integrity of the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega is at stake in this crucial election. Getting it right this time around would showcase the image of our country to the world because the election stands to test our democracy.”

APGA-WGG also charged politicians to play the game in accordance to the rules and guidelines enshrined in the Electoral Act and the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended, by shunning politics of bitterness and violence, and incorporate issue-based politics that will enhance the nation’s frail democratic encounter.
