The Obi-of-Onitsha, Igwe

I would like the FRSC to put more measures on speed control in our roads even
beyond your present programme.

recklessness that comes due to speeding is effectively checked,’’ he advised.
``Motor park
unions must certify the medical and vehicle drivability of their union members;
while your safety campaign messages should be mounted in the motor parks always
if possible 24 hours each day.
``You can team up with
motor park unions to place safety messages within minutes intervals after a
running nollywood movie on their television screens to keep the attention of
the road users and drivers cue to safety on the road always,’’ he said.
He described a driver
over-speeding on the road like someone heading to self-suicide; adding when the
negative happen in the over-speeding, the devastation would be felt by love
ones, family and community members of the victims.
He urged the corps to
take the issue of subjecting commercial motorists who come for re-issuance of
licenses through medical test and refresher driving course seriously in order
to check drivers’ fitness to continue to serve the public.
Achebe called on parents
to take responsibility of the vehicle usage of young-adults living under them
by making sure they pass through formal driving schools and issued with driving
license before they take to the road.
The Obi-of-Onitsha,
however, assured the FRSC of the support and assistance of Onitsha council of
chiefs and Onitsha people in the discharge of their duties.
Earlier, Ajayi said that
he came to seek the royal blessing as well as the co-operation of Onitsha
people to road safety issues in Anambra especially in Onitsha.
