The senator representing Anambra
Central and the South East zonal coordinator of All Progressives Congress, APC,
Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Chris Ngige, said yesterday that the
party would win the February 14, 2015 presidential election on the first
ballot, going by a well-researched poll conducted by an international organization.
Addressing reporters in Awka as
part of the preparations for the launching of the APC campaign in the South
East, which kicks off in Ebonyi State today with the presentation of the
party’s flag to the governorship candidate in the state, Senator Julius Ucha,
Ngige said the signs were there that APC will win in 28 states with majority of
votes to be cast.
According to him, APC
commissioned seasoned professionals who analyzed the situation and with the
voters spread and collection of permanent voter cards done, as well as the
voting strength of the six geo-political zones in the country, there were
indications that APC would coast to victory on the first ballot on February 14.
Ngige advised eligible voters in
the South East to read the handwriting on the wall, saying: ‘I have been
preaching against Igbo pushing themselves into marginalization, but our people
preferred to put their eggs in one basket. While many states in other zones
have embraced APC, it is only Imo that is governed by the party. That is
political short-sightedness and that was why we lost out during the
consideration for the vice presidential slot. How can we expect to produce the
vice president when we have only one governor?
“Some of us from the South East
argued that giving us the vice presidential slot could help to strengthen the
party in the zone, but as you know, politics is a game of numbers as we were
seen as weaklings in the party. Unless there is a change of attitude by the
Igbo political merchants, it will continue to be difficult for us to be given
the kind of position we desire.”
On the presidential campaign in
the South East, Ngige said the train would move from Abakaliki to Aba in Abia
State today, where the party’s governorship flag bearer, Mr. Anyim Nyerere and
other candidates would be presented to the people.
