A baby abandoned in a bush has been rescued in Awka,
capital of Anambra state reports odogwublog.com.
Sources from the State's Ministry of Women
Affairs and Social Development said the baby girl was abandoned in a bush at
Ifite-Isuaniocha, in Awka North Council Area of Anambra State.
The baby who looks very malnourished was left unclad
by the unknown parents. She was found crying helplessly as a result of pains
from the bites of ants and spike of grasses and other elements which made a
meal of her.
An operative of the Isu vigilante outfit who spoke
on the condition of anonymity said the baby had long been abandoned in the
bush. He said he heard the cries while passing on the road.
According to him, he was not able to enter the bush
when he heard the baby's repeatedly wailing as a result of fear of wild animals
as it was very dark-Due to the
location of the forest and the availability of numerous palms and other big
trees around the forest, it was hard for a human being to enter it as at that
late time of the night. The baby, who looked a little above four-month-old, may
have been abandoned because of her poor health status. Passers bye, who saw her
rescue, condemned the act of her abandonment.
However officials of Ministry of Women Affairs and
Social Development led by the Public Relation Officer of the ministry, who
arrived (he scene after the committee contacted them about the development.
The National
Light followed up the development and gathered that the baby has been
taken to a hospital where she is currently under intensive health care while
necessary papers arc being perfected with Awka Division of Nigeria Police
Force.
Following the development the citizenry has been
asked to take full ownership of their environment
and reports any suspicious activity to appropriate authorities for prompt
attention.
When contacted, the State Police Public
Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr. Uche Eze, said that he didn't receive any
