Fayose Denies Involvement In Ekiti speaker impeachment

Governor Ayo Fayose has denied involvement in the impeachment of the Ekiti state Speaker, Mr Adewale Omirin.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ayo Fayose, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said the governor should not be linked to the happenings in the Assembly.
It would be recalled that the pro-Fayose lawmakers in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, yesterday removed Mr. Adewale Omirin as the Speaker of the House and elevated the Speaker pro tempore, Dele Olugbemi, to occupy the seat.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr. Tunji Orisalade suffered a similar fate, as he was booted out and replaced with a female lawmaker, Abeni Olayinka, representing Ado Constituency 2.
The new Speaker is a foundation member of the Campaign for Democracy, a human rights organization.
Omirin, who wasn’t in Ekiti yesterday but spoke on phone with a national Television in Lagos, however, insisted that he remains the speaker of theAssembly, adding that it was only a 2/3 majority of the House that could unseat him as stipulated by the 1999 Constitution.
Insisting that only seven PDP lawmakers presided over yesterday’s impeachment, Omirin said:  “The 19 APC members are intact and we are outside the state because the place is not safe for us. Fayose is fast becoming a maximum ruler and this cannot stand.”
However, 10 people sat at the chambers to conduct the plenary, but only seven later appeared at the office of the new speaker during his maiden media briefing.
At yesterday’s proceeding, there was no heavy presence of anti-riot policemen at the Assembly, but journalists were prevented by the State Security Service (SSS) from witnessing the session.
But reporters eventually found their way into the gallery of the Hallowed Chambers, where Olugbemi was already in speaker’s ceremonial regalia, presiding over the session.
