There was tension on Monday at Federal Polytechnic Oko over computer based examinations.
Odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com gathered that the students created a scene insisting they would not write the computer based examination for their internal exams any further and where mobilizing to degenerate into a riot before the Rector Prof Godwin Onu intervened and postponed the examination.
He hurriedly held a meeting with the HOD ‘s of al the departments to resolve the issues at stake but the tension may not be unconnected with the scuttled students union government election already allegedly won by a student before it was cancelled.
As at press time odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com was not properly briefed on the happenings but al the students have been asked to go and pay their school fees. More facts would emerge later……….
Meanwhile the Chairman, Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic Oko,  Anambra State, Dr. Azubike Odukwe, has tasked the members of  staff of the institution on capacity development, urging them not to be static in their academic qualifications.
Odukwe gave the charge at a workshop organized by the OkoPoly  chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI). He urged members of staff to avail themselves of the numerous opportunities put in place by the management of the polytechnic for capacity building.
The Chairman lauded the organisers for such innovative workshop which focused on the theme, Developing Strategic Skills for Peak Performance in Administration. He added that the polytechnic remains committed to staff development and welfare, which he identified as key to the development of every institution.
He commended the leadership of the union for taking the path of dialogue on issues involving members of the union and the management, adding that dialogue is very important in resolving any contentious issue.
The Chairman of SSAUTHRIAI,  OKOPOLY chapter, Mrs. Ifeoma Ezeokoli, described the workshop as informative, rich in content, educative and rewarding.
She added that the relevance of the workshop was encapsulated in its theme, especially as it was borne out of experience of key players in the academic and administrative fields of the polytechnic. According to her, “the perspective and dimension would not  have come at any other time than now when actions are on the wheel on how best to drive the institution to actually conform and hold its name as the polytechnic of the moment”.
She continued: “The union, by this workshop, would reorient the senior administrative workforce to hone their skills or what they should possess to excel in their duties. It is also our contribution in the propagation of human resource elements towards concretization of the transformation agenda of the present administration”.
She commended the management of the institution led by Prof. Godwin Onu for his vision of transforming the polytechnic through enhanced staff welfare and development.
In his presentation, former Registrar of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Chief Tim Umeasiegbu, explained the principles and practice of writing minutes of meetings and reminded the participants that anybody could be called on to cover a meeting as secretary.
