President Goodluck Jonathan will
receive newly crowned African women’s champions, Super Falcons, in Abuja on
Wednesday, officials announced.
Sports minister, Tammy Danagogo,
announced this when he addressed the Falcons before they beat the Lionesses of
Cameroon 2-0 in the final of the African Women’s Championship in Namibia on
Saturday.
According to the minister, a
proposal has been sent to Mr. President to receive the team at the Federal
Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, noting that he is quite sure Mr.
President will be looking forward to meet the Falcons on their return as he
praised the girls for doing Nigeria proud in Namibia.
“I know it is not just going to be a
presidential hand shake alone because he likes to appreciate those who do the
country proud in any sector of national endeavor. Just get the job done and
leave the rest,” the minister stated.
Meanwhile, Senate President David
Mark has congratulated the Super FALCONS of Nigeria for beating their
Cameroonian counterparts to retain the African Women Championship (AWC)2014.

lifting the soccer spirit of the country once more, adding that their remarkable
feat in Windhoek, Namibia gives the nation a sense of pride.
“Once more, Nigeria has demonstrated
her superiority in soccer in Africa with the superlative performance of our
girls in Windhoek. This remarkable record is commendable. The nation owes them
a debt of gratitude,” he stated.
He promised that the National
Assembly will continue to make adequate budgetary allocation for sports
development not only for the need to win more laurels for the nation but because
of the potential of sports in the promotion of peace and unity of Nigeria.
The Senate President assured that
