The Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka has instituted a N10 million scholarship scheme for indigent school children in his Obosi community in Anambra.

The aviation minister said that the N10 million scholarship fund would be provided by his friends who were interested in assisting to ensure that Obosi community do not allow their children not to acquire high level education.
He said that he was worried that the children of Obosi which was known for education and which citizens had contributed immensely towards the development of Nigeria, were no longer reputed for education but had rather taken to the bush.
He said the scholarship fund was to enable children of the community who were interested in going to school but whose parents were unable to fund their education to stay back in school and acquire the all-important education.
According to him, the community had produced such personalitries like the former Secretary-General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and now a minister in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and would therefore, not afford to go back on education pursuit.
He commended the people of Obosi and the traditional ruler of the town, HRH Igwe  Chidubem Iweka, for dimming it necessary to accord him a civic reception.
He also expressed his gratitude to all those traveled from far and wide to attend the reception and prayed that God will take back to their various destinations.
Earlier, the traditional ruler of Obosi, HRH Igwe Chidubem Iweka, had extolled the virtues of the aviation minister who he said excelled as a Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission before his appointment as a minister.
Igwe Iweka who seized the opportunity of the reception to perform the traditional new yam festival which he said had always been celebrated yearly to usher in the new yam harvest and to reiterate the importance of new yam crop.
According to him, yam is the chief of crops and the new yam festival offers also a period when prayers are offered to God for peace in Obosi.
He explained that Obosi marks the festival week in a special way and that within the period, there were no fighting or bickering among the citizens and that whoever involved himself or herself in such disharmony normally faced serious penalties.
