Members of Anambra State House of Assembly at their plenary on Thursday commended a philanthropist, Prince Arthur Eze, for what they described as his “philanthropic benevolence and humanitarian services to Anambra people and Nigerians in general”.

The member representing Dunukofia State Constituency in the House, John Olibe (APGA Dunukofia),  moved the motion based on section 24 (d) (e) of the 1999 constitution.
Olibie said the constitution provides that “it shall be the duty of every citizen to make positive and useful contribution to the advancement and well being of the community where he resides and render assistance to appropriate and lawful agencies in the maintenance of law and order”.
According to him, Eze has by his action fulfilled this provision by his continued partnership with all time governments in the state and humanitarian services given to the people in the state and beyond.
Olibe listed such philanthropic gestures to include his recent $1 million donated to the security fund raised in Lagos and N1 billion to boost agriculture in the state, over N2 million relief materials given to flood victims and so on, and this demands commendation.
Having laid the foundation for the motion, Olibie said: “I humbly call that this motion be given full support as such act of appreciation, recognition and commendation would spur other wealthy indigenes to partner the state which in turn will create massive development in all spares of the economy” .
Supporting the motion, Minority leader, Mr. Tony Muonagor (APC Idemili North), said that Eze is living his life to fulfill the scriptures which supported giving bountifully.
According to Muonagor, “He was created for giving and he enjoys giving as any one who comes across him feels his touch. There are many wealthy Anambrarians who find it difficult to give or to partner with the state for  development in the state but he is one of the exceptions .”
Also, the Majority Leader, Halford Oseke (APGA Awka South II),  said the motion was worthwhile and timely as time was ripe for the legislators to begin to appreciate and encourage good gestures demonstrated by individuals from the state.
He said that  wealthy people of the state who support the development of the state and alleviate poverty in lives of the people should not go unnoticed.
The Chief Whip, Ikechukwu Umeh (APGA  Aguata II), said the motion was well thought as giving is hard as most wealthy men find it hard to part with their money but the story was not same with Eze who had given over the years to the development and welfare of the state.
The motion had no opposition from the members and was carried.
