Sokoto Police Arrest 5 Suspected Killer Of Finance Director As Police Detonate 2 IEDs At UNIUYO

Sokoto State Police Command today paraded five persons suspected to have murdered late Alhaji Yahaya Sa’idu, a Director of Finance, Kebbi Government House.

The director was allegedly murdered at Kwannawa Village in Dange Shuni Local Government Area of the state on Sept.15.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the command, DSP Almustapha Sani, said this while briefing newsmen on the arrest of the suspects in Sokoto.

He said that the wife of Sa’idu reported the case to the police that her husband was missing since Sept.15, and all efforts to trace his whereabouts proved abortive.

Sani said the police subsequently arrested one Bello Ubandawaki who confessed that he and four others carried out the deadly act.

The PPRO explained that the police recovered the deceased body at Ubandawaki’s residence at Kwannawa.

Sani said the wife of the principal suspect, Fatima Ubandawaki, Shehu, Musbahu Musa, Aliyu Sani, as well as Luba Salisu, a friend to the deceased were also arrested.

He said the police command had since commenced intensive investigation on the murder case.

Meanwhile, the police command in Akwa Ibom said it had detonated two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) found in the male hostel of University of Uyo (UNIUYO).

Confirming the incident in Uyo on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Etim Dickson, told newsmen that the explosives were home-made.

Dickson, who said that the IEDs were likely produced by science students of the university, said investigations had commenced on the matter.

He assured the students on campus and parents not to entertain any fear about possible breakdown of law and order in the university community.

He said “the incident has been properly taken care of, we urge students and employees of the institution to go about their normal businesses.”

The  IEDs were discovered by the campus security squad known as Operatives of Peace on Campus Initiative (PCI).

The Anti-Bomb Squad of the Nigeria Police had on arrival at the students’ hostel detonated the two improved explosive devices and conducted a search round the other hostel rooms. (NAN)
