It is with profound joy that I welcome you all to the 25th/3rd Joint
Matriculation ceremony of this great College, Today's ceremony marks the formal
admission of the first year students
of NCE and Degree programmes of the College as bonafiide students of the
College and represents the formal closure of the 2013/2014 admission exercise in
the College.
Today's occasion calls for
celebration because of God's abounding grace, protection and guidance in the
educational revolution taking place in the College, under the leadership of our
able Provost, Professor J.O. Ogbuagu. The College has made notable landmarks
ranging from the elevation of the College to Degree-awarding status and
expansion of the academic programmes of the College to the completion and
equipping of the ultra-modern Library, Virtual Library, Step-B ICT in 2010,
construction of new science laboratories, construction of new lecture theatres,
new Stores complex, new Staff Primary School, College Maingate, completion of
Perimeter Fence, the new Auditorium at the permanent site and other ongoing
projects in the permanent site of College. Therefore, I will not hesitate to
thank God for His grace and favour bestowed to the College to record all these
achievements made by it under the leadership of the Provost, Prof. J.O.
Ogbuagu.
I am delighted; to inform you that the College is making
progress in the right direction. This year 2014, all the eleven Degree
programmes of the College namely:
Ø
Biology Education
Ø Building/Woodwork Technology Education ^ Business Education
Ø Chemistry Education
Ø Early Childhood Education and Primary Education
Ø Educational Management and Policy
Ø Electrical/Electronics Technology Education
Ø Integrated Science Education
Ø Library Science and
Information Education
Ø Mathematics Education and
Ø
Mechanical/Automobile
Technology Education
were duly accredited. I am also pleased
to inform you that two new Degree programmes - Computer Science Education and
Physics Education have been approved by the National Universities Commission
(NUC). We shall admit students into these programmes this 2014/2015 academic
session.
Therefore, I am delighted to welcome the
matriculating students, the parents/guardians and well wishers of this College
to this August ceremony. The process through which the matriculating students
are admitted into the College is very; rigorous and a competitive one. Many
deserving students were not as fortunate as you because the spaces were
limited. I therefore wish to congratulate
you, your parents, well wishers and friends for the actualization of this dream
of gaining admission into the College. We wish you a happy stay and a
successful career in Federal College of Education (Tech), Umunze.
Matriculation is an annual academic
event which marks the formal admission of fresh students into the College,
which opens the door to the rights, privileges and window of opportunities
which the College offers to students. However, this marks the beginning of a
journey which demands hard work, dedication, discipline and faith in God to get
to the desired destination. I wish to stress here that some of you will be
shown the way out of the College either because of poor academic performance,
examination misconduct or forgery or cultism or anti-social behaviours. It is
therefore, important that you resolve to do whatever you can to remain in the race.
I enjoin you to avail yourself of the wonderful opportunities available in the
College to lay for yourself a solid foundation for successful education in
character and learning. The Students' Handbook contains all the information
that will guide you through a peaceful and fruitful stay in the College.
Finally, I congratulate our dear
parents, friends of the College and our mother institution, Nnamdi Azikiwe
University, Awka, I specially congratulate our new Vice Chancellor - Professor
Joseph E. Ahaneku for his new appointment and I hope he will work with us to
lift this College to greater heights.
Thanks and safe journey back to your
respective destinations.
