OBITUARY

With gratitude to God for a life spent in the service of God and humanity and with deep sorrow at the exit from this earthly life, the Catholic Diocese of Awka announces the death of His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Simon A. Okafor, the emeritus Bishop of Awka (Nov. 16, 1934 – August 29, 2014).

Bishop Okafor was ordained a priest on July 21, 1963; appointed Provost of the then Anambra State College of Education Awka in October 1987; consecrated Auxiliary Bishop of Awka on May 30, 1992; appointed Bishop of Awka on Sept, 9, 1994, and became emeritus bishop on July 17, 2010.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2014

10.30am          Body leaves Regina Caeli Hospital, Awka

11.00am          Lying in State at Okafor Ekwunife’s Compound Ifitedunu

12.00noon      Tributes & Songs at St. Gabriel’s Field Ifitedunu

2.00 pm           Mass at St. Gabriel’s Church Ifitedunu

5.00 pm           Vigil Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2014

9.30 am           Lying in State at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka

10.00 am         Burial Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka

Interment follows immediately at the Crypt Chapel, St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka
