Federal Polytechnic Oko Conducts SUG Election, Postpones Matriculation To Further Notice Amidst Tension

           

Year one students of the Federal Polytechnic,  Oko were unhappy today as the matriculation ceremony they have made every arrangement to host their friends and family members was canceled till further notice without further explanation by the authorities, reports odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com.

But a source at the Polytechnic, said it was due to tension generated by the Youths of the community still demanding the head of the Rector , Prof Godwin Onu . Onu and the traditional ruler fell apart sequel to the overzealousness of some staff of the school who forget Ekwueme and Onu are both Professors and elders of Old Aguata union where the school is located.

But the Public Relations officer of the Polytechnic, Mr Obini Onuchukwu dismissed the rumour saying the Matric was never scheduled before . He said the Polytechnic was rather faced with conducting the SUG election having set up the body responsible for conducting the election last Monday in accordance with the rules.  

Another source said a probe panel from the senate and the Executive were in Oko probing activities the Rector even as another investigative panel was allegedly said to be investigating the Polytechnic for operating a satellite school outside the rules at Akwa Ibom and other states.

On probe panel, Obini said there was no such thing but admitted some people may be riding o the towering posture of Polytechnic to establish schools or claim things on the name of the Polytechnic which they are after them to nip such excesses in the bud, adding that NBTE’s rules are guiding them as they have three campuses Ufuma, Atani and Oko main campus

He denied that the Polytechnic management floated a school and are probed adding that no probe panel is in the Institution. He equally said there was no tension in the school from the youths as community is cool and happy with economic activities going on.
