In a bid to forestall penetration of
the deadly Ebola Virus into the state, Anambra State Government through its
Ministry of Health has trained 41 health personals who would assist in
preaching the gospel at all the nooks and crannies of the state.
The training held at weekend in King
David’s Hotel, Awka, the state capital, was supervised by well experienced
health apparatus sent-in from Abuja federal ministry of health.
Speaking during the occasion, Dr.
Emmanuel Okafor, the State Epidemiologist in charge of disease surveillance in
Anambra State Ministry of Health, disclosed that the trainees would foresee
sensitisation of others at local government level.
According to Dr. Okafor, the trained
health officers and others they would sensitise at the 21 council areas in the
state would join hands in spreading the good news throughout the 177
communities in the and beyond.
“They are expected to pass the
knowledge to ministries, agencies, organizations, individuals, churches,
communities, associations and so on, who may likely request for their
attention”.
Dr. Okafor, while noting that the
information would be free, explained that it will reduce tensions building-up
in the minds of people sequel to rumour peddlers, even as he assured that the
federal government had provided them with forms to request for necessary things
needed in perfecting the programme.
He further reiterated that no call
for alarm, because according to him, the hemorrhagic virus had no place in the
state and it has been contained in the country as broadcasted by the federal
minister of health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu.
As a result, he encouraged students
and pupils schooling in the state to return to classroom as everywhere is
secured against Ebola.
Meanwhile, both primary and
secondary schools in Anambra state has resumed for 2014/2015 academic session
as directed by the federal ministry of health and education.
