
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state yesterday
promised to stop further expansion of erosion at Nanka erosion site as his
government has put every machinery in place to make it tourist attraction site,

Obiano who announced this during his working visit
to Orumba North local government area, said his government will build table
bridges across the erosion boarders.
Obiano who was unhappy with the continued excavation
of sand from the erosion site banned further excavation of sand on any of the
erosion sites forthwith.
He described the sight as ‘’beautiful’’ hence his
administration would turn it into something meaningful even as he said it is a
disaster because of threat to the lives and property of the two affected
communities of Oko and Nanka.
Odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com further reports that Obiano
warned that his government would not take it lightly with anybody seen
excavating sand in the area as the person would be made to face the full wrath
of the law. He encouraged residents of the area to make available useful
information that would assist government trap those excavating sand from the
erosion sites. He thanked the Governor for his visit and assured him of his
solidarity.
Responding , Chairman of Orumba North local
government area Chief Okey Enekwe assured Obiano that he would carry out his
directive to the later adding that he has set up a task force already to carry
out the Governor’s directive. He warned all those excavating sand from the
erosion sites to desist or face the wrath of the law as sand excavation has
been banned in Orumba North two communities of Oko and Nanka.
In his response , the chairman Oko ecological
erosion control committee, Mr Barnabbas Nwafor represented by President General
Oko Progressives Union, Mr Cyprain Nwanmuo as well as the Traditional ruler of
Oko , Igwe Prof Laz Ekwueme said Oko community is grateful to Governor Willie
Obiano for being sensitive to their plight.
